U14/U16 SW Reg long squad trials registration

SW Regional U14/U16 competition

Netball Southwest (NSW) organise a league competition for the top junior clubs in each county in the SW - these include Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Glos, Somerset and Wiltshire.

TBNC is keen to be represented in 2020/2021 at both U14 (Yrs 8/9) and U16 (Yrs 10/11) and to this end we are offering extra training sessions over the summer for up to 20 players at each age group in preparation for this competition - these groups of players will be known as 'long'squads'.

Seeding Tournament

Teams will be expected to attend a seeding tournament for the relevant age group on a Sunday in early October - dates to be confirmed, venue likely to be in Paignton.

League and Divisions

The seeding tournament will decide which Division of the SW Regional leagues teams will play in:-

Division 1 - this is made up of the top 8 qualifying teams. Teams play each other twice with matches played on Sundays at a central venue - usually in Paignton.  Teams will play 2 matches each fixture date (tbc).  The top 2 teams then have the opportunity to compete at the National Finals later in the year.

Division 2 - all remaining teams will play in Div 2 on a Home / Away basis.  Due to the number of teams Div 2 may be divided into North and South leagues, with the top 2 teams from each league playing off to find an overall Div 2 winner.

Long squad trials

We will therefore be holding trials where we will select up to 20 players from each age group who will form an U14 and an U16 long squad.  These players will be invited to attend extra training sessions during June, July and possibly Aug (suggested dates are given below).

Final SW Regional squads will be selected at normal club trials in September.

Final squads will consist of 12 players with the correct balance across all positions, so it will not be possible for all long squad players to be selected for the final squads.  And it cannot be guaranteed that the final squads will be selected entirely from each long squad.  This will most likely occur when a player, not previously a club member, attends trials in September and is considered to be the stronger player.

Any long squad player not selected for the final squads of 12 will have a guaranteed place in one of our other 3 squads in their relevant age group.

Selected players will be asked to pay £35 per person to cover the costs of training courts and coaches and which needs to paid before training starts on June 1st.

You are invited to attend the relevant long squad trials for your age group - if you would like to take part please complete the on-line form below by 20th April 2020 at the latest.
